Anna Gene Woodruff, 89, passed away at home on February 14th, 2013. She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Guy C. Woodruff Jr., her son, Guy C. Woodruff III, and her daughter- in- law Dora Contreras-Woodruff. Annie was born and grew up in Dallas, TX. She showed her intelligence and ambition early, by becoming the first female president of her high school senior class. After graduation she contributed to the war effort by working in a defense plant. When her future husband returned home from the war, they moved to Alpine, where this amazing woman received her Bachelors' degrees in Math and English from Sul Ross State University, while working full time and having and raising six children. She then began a long and distinguished teaching career at Alpine High School, Ft. Hancock High School, and Burges High School. As an educator, she was a great influence on many of her Math, Science and English students. After retirement she enjoyed watching sports, especially the Atlanta Braves, the Utep Miners, and the Dallas Cowboys. She also enjoyed drinking coffee, reading, drinking Margaritas at Julio?s, listening to jazz, and of course, Sinatra. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, and friend. She will be greatly missed by her children: Ted, Laura, Susan, Peter, & Lesley; her grandchildren: Taylor, Travis, Jollen, Jackie, Whitney, Lauren, Jessica , Ryan, Karla, Kevin, Erin, Connor, Susan , Mike, and Jennifer; her grandsons- in- law: Edgar, Matt, and John; her granddaughters- in- law: Kellie, Nicole, and Beth; her great grandchildren: Eric, Madison Gene, Isaac, and Townes: her sons ?in- law: Tom, Frank, Joel, and Jim; her daughters- in- law: Irma, Cynthia, Martha, and Mary Bell. Her family and many friends will continue to tell her stories and celebrate her spirit. Special thanks to Odyssey Hospice for their compassionate care, especially Cesar and Jose. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, February 23, 2013, at Mt. Carmel Funeral Home chapel, 1775 N. Zaragosa, El PasoTx 79936.
