ANTONIO LUCERO

Antonio Epifanio Lucero, CSM U.S. Army (RET) passed away on February 19, 2013, in his home with his family by his side. He was born on January 22, 1924, to Alberto M. and Antonia Vigil Lucero in Santa Fe, New Mexico. He is survived by his brothers Joe Fidel, Guadalupe and Seferino Lucero and his sisters Lydia Garcia and Dolores Lopez. He is also survived by his loving wife of 66 years Esperanza Garcia Lucero, children Katherine G. Lucero, Anthony E. Lucero, Jr. (Cathy), Patricia L. Hughes (Harold) and Anna Marie Lucero. He is loved by his grandchildren, Katherine V. Rose, Angelique, Tony III & Ariel Lucero, Elissa & Evan Hughes and 3 great-grandchildren. He was a devout Catholic, Patriarch of the Lucero and Garcia families and will be remembered by relatives, friends and neighbors who valued his wisdom, generosity and kindness. During his youth, he worked for Western Union and served in the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) in Colorado. He entered the Army Air Corps in 1942 and was a veteran of WWII, the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army for 31 years retiring at the rank of Command Sergeant Major. CSM Lucero was awarded numerous commendations, most notably the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Medal with two oak leaf clusters, Meritorious Service Medal with one oak leaf cluster, Purple Heart Medal with one oak leaf cluster and the Cardinal Cooke Award. Although he travelled the world and lived most of his life in Texas, he remained a proud New Mexican. Visitation will be held on Sunday, February 24, 2013 from 5:00PM to 9:00PM, with a Rosary at 7:00PM at FDA Harding-Orr & McDaniel, 320 Montana Ave. Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, February 25, 2013 at 11:30AM at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, 2709 Alabama St., followed by interment with Full Military Honors at 1:00PM at Fort Bliss National Cemetery.
