David Leyva, Retired Army SGT. Major passed away on Tuesday, April 8, 2014. He is survived by his wife Angelica Leyva, his daughters Nancy Straughan and Debbie Leyva both of Austin, TX and his sons David Leyva, of Sonoma, CA and Abraham A. Zavala R. of El Paso, TX. He is also survived by his grandson, Ian Straughan of Austin, TX, plus Quantious family and friends. David was born in Colton, CA on July 30, 1930. He enlisted in the US Army in 1947 where he was a member of the 82nd and 173rd Airborne Division with tours in Korea and in Vietnam. He retired from the military in 1969, then settled in El Paso where he founded and remained proprietor of Border Fence Co. for 30 years. He devoted much of his time to multiple service organizations and charities such as the Free Masons and the Scottish Rite. Furthermore, he was a devoted Shriner and Jester through the El Maida Shrine Temple and he was also a member of Rotary International. Visitation: 5:00pm to 9:00 pm Thursday, April 10, 2014 at Martin Funeral Home East with Vigil at 7:00pm. Mass: 9:00 am Friday, April 11, 2014 at St. Mark Catholic Church.
