Emmit R. Johnson, 85 years of age, passed away on Tuesday, September 25th, at his son's home in Clint, Texas. Preceded in death by his parents, Emmit L. and Cynthia Q., and brother Joe. He is survived by his wife Maria Luisa of El Paso TX, eight children (Randy, Richard, Russell, Rose, Michael, Elizabeth, James and Jeannette), nine grandchildren, and one great-granddaughter. He is also survived by his brother, James K. Johnson of Nucla, CO. Emmit earned a bachelor?s from North Texas State, and a master?s from Texas Western College (now UTEP). For more than thirty years, he taught high school math, among other subjects, and served as an elementary school principal for the Socorro Independent School District in Socorro, Texas. In his retirement, he wrote and illustrated several books, and travelled extensively in Alaska and Mexico. Family members will conduct a private memorial service in El Paso, Texas on Sunday September 30. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations bemade to scholarships for education and/or the Senior Citizen Center of El Paso, TX.
