IVA GARRETSON

Iva Mae Garretson Iva Garretson died April 10th, 2013 in Albuquerque New Mexico of natural causes, she was 93. Iva was born on June 10, 1919 in Athens County Ohio. She lived in Ohio until she was 38, during which time she married Raymond Jayjohn and had one son Ronald Jayjohn, who died at age five. In 1954 Iva remarried to Bobby Dean Garretson and bore three children. Iva was widowed in 1972. Iva has been active in the Lutheran Church most of her life and was a member of Good Shepherd/New Hope church in El Paso Texas for 42 years. She moved to Albuquerque in her later years and has been a member of All Saints Lutheran Church. Iva worked in retail sales in Ohio, Anchorage Alaska, and El Paso. She was Personnel Manager of the Northeast El Paso K-Mart for 15 years. Iva loved to sew in her spare time and made most of her daughter's clothes when they were young. She also was an artistic cake decorator and created many beautiful pieces for events and weddings. Iva was a great neighbor and friend to many. She took several young teenagers under her roof and provided caring loving support until they were ready to stand on their own. She also cared for numerous people in their old age, providing meals and rides. Iva was a wonderful mother and will be deeply missed by her three children, Robert Garretson of East Wenatchee Washington, Laurie Garretson of Albuquerque, and Linda Garretson of El Paso. She is survived by three grandchildren, Merideth Garretson, Robert Garretson Jr. and Kendall Anderman. A celebration of Iva's life will be held in El Paso at 10:00 AM June 15th at New Hope Lutheran Church on 4801 Sun Valley Drive.
