Our beloved Jose Candelaria, Jr. joined our heavenly father December 14, 2013 at the age of 66. Jose was born July 13, 1947 in El Paso, Texas and grew up in the Lower Valley often causing mischief with his brothers and sisters and the neighborhood kids who became his lifelong friends. He attended Our Lady of Mt. Carmel and served as an altar boy under Father Martinez. He later graduated from Ysleta High and shortly after was drafted to serve his country in Vietnam. Jose was a proud Vietnam Veteran and after the war he married the love of his life Bertha Candelaria (Ramirez) or as he affectionately called her, Birdie. Together they had three children which he loved very much, Rachel Candelaria, Paul Candelaria, and Yvonne Candelaria. Jose had a love for life and had much love for his family and friends. He loved to read and could give anyone a challenge in Jeopardy. He loved animals and nature and would often go camping with family and friends. His other passion was music. Jose loved to play guitar and sing, and always sang from the heart. He has touched many lives and will remain in their hearts forever. He was the son of Jose Candelaria, Sr. and Emma Candelaria (Pedregon). He is survived by his loving wife Birdie, children Rachel, Paul, and Yvonne, sisters and brother Alice Martinez, Annie Barazza, and Antonio Candelaria, his five grandchildren Lisa Nicole Candelaria, Corrin Saenz, Paul Brandon Candelaria, James Candelaria and Ayla Nadjem, two great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held Wednesday, December 18, 2013 from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm with recitation of the rosary at 7:00 pm. Mass will be held Thursday, December 19, 2013 at 9:00 am at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel (Mission) with interment to follow at Ft. Bliss National Cemetery
