Luis B. Almonte Jr., 85, passed away on February 23, 2014. He was born on February 5, 1929 in Ft. Quitman, Texas. He is preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Jennie R. Almonte. He is also preceded in death by his granddaughter, Jessica Lynn Almonte. Luis retired from Furr's Grocery Stores after 43 years. He served as a meat market manager. Luis proudly served in the United States Army Reserve. He was a dedicated Husband, Father, Grandfather, and Great-Grandfather. Luis exemplified a true family man and instilled those values in his children. Luis was an avid boxing fan and a loyal Dallas Cowboys fan. Luis is survived by five children: Luis Almonte III and wife, Terri Almonte; David R. Almonte and wife, Martha Almonte; Robert R. Almonte and wife, Janet Almonte; Arthur Almonte; and James Almonte, all of El Paso, Texas. He is also survived by 9 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Luis Almonte III; David R. Almonte; Robert R. Almonte; James Almonte; David Ray Almonte; and Robert Almonte II. Honorary pallbearers are Terri Almonte, Julian Franco, Joe "Andy" Guzman, and Ernie Rodriguez. The Almonte family would also like to extend deep gratitude to Global Hospice and Deacon Jim Szostek for their compassion in caring for Luis. Visitation will be on Wednesday, February 26, 2014 from 5 to 9 p.m., with rosary to begin at 7 p.m., at San Jose Funeral Home-East, with Deacon Jim Szostek Celebrant, 10950 Pellicano St, El Paso Texas 79935. Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, February 27, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Stephen's Catholic Church, 1700 George Dieter, with Fr. James Marcus McFadin Celebrant and Luis' nephew, Fr. Michael Rodriguez concelebrant. Interment: Evergreen East Cemetery.
