Nicolas Cano Lujan, 95, of San Elizario, TX, passed away July 22, 2013 at home surrounded by his loving family. He was born to the late Nicolas Lujan and the late Paula Cano Lujan, June 16, 1918, in San Elizario, TX. He was baptized on July 6, 1918 by Rev. R. M. Libertini Jr. at San Elizario Church. Nicolas served in the U.S. Army
during World War II
from November 1942 thru February 1946 with the Company D, 1st Medical Battalion and later earned the Medical Badge. As a veteran of WWII, he earned several medals: European-African-Middle-Eastern (EAME) Campaign Medal with 2 Bronze Stars
for Rhineland and Central Europe campaigns; American Theater Campaign Medal; Good Conduct Medal; Victory Ribbon; 1 Service Stripe; and 2 Overseas Service Bars. He was honorable discharged on February 8, 1946. Nicolas retired from Phelps Dodge Refinery after 33 years of dedicated service. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Maria Tomasa Almanzar Lujan. He was the father to ten children: Manuel (late); Yolanda; Nick; Nora; Pablo; Olga; Mary Lou; Rosemary; Jose; and Rene. He also leaves behind numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Visitation: 2-5:00PM, Thursday, July 25 at San Jose Fabens Chapel. Vigil Service: 7:00PM, Thursday, July 25 at San Elizario Catholic Church. Funeral Mass: 11:30AM, Friday, July 26 at San Elizario Catholic Church with interment to follow at Ft. Bliss National Cemetery with Honors.
