Reverend William J. Perkins, M. Div.was born August 21, 1959 to Mr. William Webb and Mary Magdaline (Perkins) Thompson in Newport News, Virginia. He completed his elementary and high school education in the public school system of Newport News, Virginia. Rev. Perkins completed his Baccalaureate from Hampton University in one of the oldest black owned colleges majoring in Sociology/Business. He served his country in the United States Army Officers Corps. (Air Defense Artillery) from 1982 to 1990 stationed in Korea, Texas, and North Carolina. After his service to our country, he earned his Master of Divinity degree from the Interdenominational Theological Center in Atlanta, Georgia. He was also an active fellow at the Morehouse School of Religion. Rev. Perkins was the serving Pastor of Second Baptist Church and Adjunct Instructor at Park University for Religious Studies. Reverend Perkins leaves behind his beloved wife of 29 years RamielM. Perkins (Crawford), an educator with the Socorro Independent School District, and three children Justin a Communications Major at Georgia State University, Christopher a senior at New Mexico State University majoring in Music, Mariah a freshman at Baylor University majoring in Biochemistry Pre-med. He leaves to mourn two sisters Denise Trotter, Cynthia Vaughn, two brothers James Thompson, Kenneth Thompson and a host of nephews and nieces. Visitation will be held Monday, March 24th from 6-8 pm with prayer service at 7 pm at San Jose Funeral Home (915) 590-8700. Funeral service will be Tuesday, March 25th at 11:00 a.m. at Second Baptist Church 401 S. Virginia St., 79901. Interment will follow at Fort Bliss National Cemetery.In memory of Pastor Perkins, in lieu of flowers donations can be made to The Boys and Girls Club of America and the College Fund for The Perkins Family.
