William R. Plumbley

William R. Plumbley, 80, went to be with his Lord on December 6, 2012. He was an athlete at Ysleta High School and in 1975 named Outstanding Ex. He continued his education at Texas Western College where he was quarterback of the football team. He was in ROTC and upon graduating, served in the Army in occupied Korea with the 82nd Airborne, making 25 jumps. After his discharge he went to work at Texas Western continuing his education earning his administrative certification. He worked as Athletic Business Director and was involved with the Peace Corp. After his marriage to Patricia Lasiter in 1963, he went to work for the Ysleta School District as Assistant Athletic Director and Director of Physical Education for the 31 schools in the District. In August of 1972, and wanting to raise his family in a small town, he moved to Marfa Texas as the Elementary K-8 Principal for 34 years. In 1974 he was called to be minister of the First Christian Church where he served for 20 years. He has served as Scoutmaster, Hospice and other service organizations.He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Patricia, sons Larry (Cathy), Terrill (Lucy), William (Lynn) and daughter Lynnetta, brothers David (Helen), Robin (Jan), and sisters Betty Ruth and Joann, seven grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and extended family. He was the most loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. Anyone who knew him loved him, loved the twinkle in his eye and the best laugh ever heard. Graveside services will be held at Ft. Bliss in El Paso, Texas on Thursday December 27, 2012 at 11:00am. Bishop Bill Hutchinson of Las Cruces, New Mexico will officiate.
