RAYMOND SHOWERY

With sorrow we announce the passing of our father, Dr. Raymond Edward Showery, born September 14, 1928 in Houston, Texas to Charles Showery, a recent immigrant from Syria, and Theo Roberts Showery, an acclaimed R.N. He was loved, regarded, respected, charming and captivating. At the age of 13, he washed dishes at the Hilton Hotel. He then went on to chauffeur, deliver milk, play football for Texas Western, teach biology at Ysleta High School, and coach a youth football team to championship status. He was a chemist at Phelps Dodge, graduated from U.T. Galveston Medical School and rose to the rank of Commander in the U.S. Navy where he developed new surgical techniques and implements. He was preceded in death by his two sons, Russell and Regan Showery. He leaves behind five children, Raelene Perea, Randolf Showery, Roger Showery and wife Sofia, Rachel Showery, and Rebecca Showery Fierro and husband Stephen as well as many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Visitation will be held Thursday, January 31, 2013 at noon at Hillcrest Funeral Home, 5054 Doniphan. The Funeral Service will begin at 1 p.m. Pallbearers will be Polo Ybanez, Roger Showery, James Showery, Lance Broetje, Stephen Fierro, and Wendell Holder.
