ADAM HERNANDEZ Obituary
MM1 Adam Robert Hernandez, 28, died June 20, 2012. Adam graduated from Socorro High School in 2002. He enlisted in the Navy and attended recruit training in Great Lakes, Illinois; he graduated on April 9, 2004. Adam was accepted to the Naval Nuclear Power Training Command in Goose Creek, South Carolina. He graduated from the program on January 21, 2005. Adam continued his training at the Naval Nuclear Power Training Unit in Ballston, New York. After completing his training, Adam served aboard the USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN72) Aircraft Carrier, based in Everett, Washington. Adams travels of the world included a tour in the Persian Gulf. In 2009, he was reassigned to Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard & Intermediate Maintenance Facility in Oahu, Hawaii. Adam was qualified as a Surface Ship Nuclear Propulsion Plant Supervisor. While attached to Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard & Intermediate Maintenance Facility as Pure Water Delivery Technician in 2010, he ensured the successful delivery of pure water to Pearl Harbor home ported and foreign submarines in support of Rim of the Pacific 2010 Exercise. His efforts enabled ships and submarines to complete international training exercises. From 2011 to 2012, he served as a nuclear pipe fitter responsible for the assembly and installation of test rigs for use in various applications on nuclear submarines enabling them to complete critical testing and return to the Fleet "Fit to Fight." Additionally, as an Assistant Command Fitness Leader, Petty Officer Hernandez set the bar high in physical fitness by scoring Outstanding in two Physical Fitness Assessments while at the Shipyard. His dedication resulted in the successful completion of numerous assessments and fostered an awareness of health through physical fitness. Adam had many hobbies the most prominent of which was salsa and swing dancing. He enjoyed listening to various types of music. He often read about brave historical figures and how to better relationships. Adam was adventurous and Hawaii allowed him to have many adventures including, skydiving, scuba diving, surfing, cliff diving, shark fishing and octopus wrestling. He was an avid fan of UFC, MMA and wrestling. Adam loved sushi and having his meat rare . . . very rare. Adam is survived by his mother, Ruth Montelongo Rivas and father, Robert Hernandez; brother, Matthew Isaiah Hernandez; sister, Kristen Ruth Hernandez; grandmother, Maria Luisa Montelongo; grandfather, Heriberto Hernandez; his step family, Paul, Ben and Katie Rivas; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and last but not least, Bogie, Adam's favorite stuffed animal from childhood. Visitation for Adam will be on Friday, June 29, 2012 from 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Mt. Carmel Funeral Home with a prayer service at 7:00 PM. Funeral Service will be on Monday, July 2, 2012 at 9:30 AM at Mt. Carmel Funeral Home; interment to follow at Ft. Bliss National Cemetery with military honors. (LOGO)
