Obituary Condolences

Hector Montes Sr. went into the arms of our Heavenly Father with his family by his side on Wednesday, March 13, 2013. He was born on September 26, 1947 in El Paso, TX to Rosa C. Montes and Petronilo Montes. Throughout his life, he wore many hats: son, husband, father, papa, brother, uncle, coach and friend. He was a two-time Spelling Bee champion as a student at Alamo Elementary School. He graduated from El Paso Technical High School in 1966 and was a proud Lion. Dad loved to read and talk about current events and newspaper crosswords puzzles were his favorites. He married his high school sweetheart, Velia M. Montes, on October 16, 1966. They left to Houston, TX so Dad could earn his vocational degree and certificates of completion in the Heating Ventilation and Cooling (HVAC) field. He was a local Hispanic entrepreneur, owning Texas Air Conditioning before joining Kings Aire with his Compa, Mando, until he retired in 2006. Dad loved to take Mom and his children on road trips and we saw many famous landmarks and had many memorable laughs along the way. Dad supported his four children and grandchildren in all their extra-curricular activities. He was at every ball game, band contest/concert, golf tournament, graduation, induction ceremony, dance recital, etc. and was so proud of all their accomplishments. He was a member of the Lamar Elementary PTA, a Cub Scout master, and a football and band booster. Dad was a Boys Baseball of El Paso coach during the 1980s and won a city championship with his Lamar Longhorns (majors) team. Dad loved sports, baseball and golf in particular. He followed the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Houston Astros. Dad was a member of the Pan American Golf Association and the Ascarate Golf Association where he served as a member and a board member, and on any given Sunday, you could find him on a golf course on the back nine. He was also a Dallas Cowboys fan and attended some of their playoff games in the 90s. Dad loved the outdoors. Dad enjoyed watering his lawn, planting and gardening. He was also a handy man around the house and completed many do-it-yourself projects and home renovations on his own. Dad was a member of the Catholic Church and he treasured his faith throughout his life. Dad we love you with all our hearts and we will miss you forever. Our family would like to thank Dr. Alfonso Chavez, Dr. Jerry W. Miller, Dr. Antonio Ortega, Dr. Ahmad Hajj, the Sierra Medical Center ICU, CCU and second floor nurses and the Fresenius Dialysis Center staff who took extremely great care of our father all the way to the end. He is preceded in death by his beloved mother and father, Rosa and Pete Montes. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Velia; their four children, Hector Jr. (Veronica), Monica, Cindy (Richard), and Michael, his five grandchildren: Hector III and Miranda Montes, Amely and Analisa Quiñonez, and Elisa Bustamante; his two older brothers, Pete and Julio Montes, several nieces and nephews and many loving family members. A visitation will be held on Friday, March 15, 2013 from 5pm-9pm, with the recitation of the rosary at 7pm at San Jose Funeral Home-East 10950 Pellicano Dr. (915) 590-8700. Burial Mass will be held on Saturday, March 16, 2013 at 8AM at St. Patrick Cathedral, 1118 North Mesa St., El Paso, TX, 79902 with Father Mariano Lopez officiating. Interment will follow at Memory Gardens 4900 McNutt Rd. Santa Teresa, NM 88008. Pallbearers will be Hector Jr., Michael, Hector III, Richard Bustamante, Julio Montes Jr. and Enrique Aguilar Jr. Honorary Pallbearers are Pete C. Montes, Julio Montes Sr., Samuel Reyes and Armando Reyes. Our family asks that you wear something green to the funeral services, as this was our Dad's favorite color.
