JULIA HADDAD Obituary
Julia Esper Haddad of El Paso, Texas passed away April 23, 2014, one month short of her 99th birthday. She was married to Najib for 53 years until his death in 1986. Her parents, Sam and Sarah Esper, settled in Homestead, PA after immigrating from Syria, marrying in New York where Julia was born in 1915, the eldest of 12. Julia is survived by her children Maynard (Anita), Johnny, Della, Maggie Simmons, Judy and Kenneth; grandchildren Danny Haddad, Julianne Haddad, Laura Lynn Johnson, Chris Haddad, Shawn Simmons, Judy Fourzan, Wade Walker, John Walker, and 12 great grandchildren. Surviving siblings are Mike, Bobby, Betty, Joe and Jim Esper and Mary Robinson, all of Pennsylvania. Julia came to El Paso as a teenaged newlywed in 1932. Without Formal education, she learned Syrian and Spanish, and as her children grew in number and age, she became an accomplished cook, for years leading volunteers in St. Clement's kitchen preparing enchilada luncheons. She was honored for her then record 10,000 volunteer hours over 25 years to Thomason General and with a tray for her 15,000 hours to Providence Memorial. Julia bowled in at least 2 leagues for decades into her 90's. She took great pride in H & H Carwash and Coffee Shop established by Najib and sons. Julia's feisty spirit and competitive nature were felt by all who floated in and out of her orbit, not to be forgotten. The family thanks Julia's caretakers, Petra Garcia, Isis Diaz and Rosenda Ramirez. Visitation is Sunday, April 27th, 5-8 pm at Harding Orr & McDaniel Funeral Home. Burial is Monday, April 28th at 1 pm at Restlawn Memorial Park, 5858 Alps, followed by a Memorial Service at 3 pm at St. Clement's Episcopal Church, officiated by the Rev. Bill Cobb and the Rev. Ron Thompson. Honorary Pallbearers include Julia's siblings, Darlene Esper, Mrs. Alicia Aboud, Leo, Norma , Brian , Billy Haddad, Joyce Haddad, Deborah Burt, Jacob Fourzan and Kevin Shannon. Memorial contributions can be made to St. Clement's or Hospice of El Paso.
