KARA HOLIFIELD

HOLIFIELD Kara Elizabeth Holifield, a student at LeTourneau University in Longview, Texas lost her battle with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) on August 1, 2011, her 22nd birthday. She departed this world to see if there really are many mansions in her Father's house. Born and raised in El Paso, Kara was a graduate of Chapin High School where she was class president. Her goal was to become a teacher and teach digital electronics to high school students at a magnet school. She was a National Achievement Scholar, and listed in Who's Who Among American High School Students, and Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges. Kara was a member of Vineyard Church in El Paso, and LifePoint Church in Longview. She is survived by her mother, Mary Jo; her father, SGM (Ret) Wilbert "Holi" Holifield; her brother, James; and her sister, Dr. Chandra Holifield Collins of Tucson. Visitation will be on Thursday, August 11, 2011 from 11:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. at Sunset Funeral Home Northeast, 4631 Hondo Pass, El Paso, TX 79904. Funeral Services will be held immediately after visitation at 12:00 pm at the funeral home followed by interment at Fort Bliss National Cemetery. A repast is scheduled after interment at the Golden Corral, 4610 Transmountain Road. Kara's only aspiration was to help others and in that spirit, in lieu of flowers, the family request you send donations to Kara's Kids, a charity set up in honor of Kara to help send under privileged kids to school.
