Dr. Karla Diaz Davalos, 31 of El Paso, Texas passed away on Saturday, July 27, 2013 after a courageous battle against cancer. She was surrounded by her family and friends. Karla grew up in El Paso and graduated from St. Clements Episcopal School and Loretto Academy. She always strived to be the best and accomplished many things in a short period of time. After graduating at the top of her class Karla attended Northeast Ohio Medical University. She was an internal medicine resident at Texas Tech University in El Paso and had been living in San Antonio, TX and working as a Pulmonary and Critical Care fellow at University Hospital. She was dedicated to her family and friends and those who knew her admired her sense of humor, her kindness, and her character. She served as a leader, mentor and role model and her relaxed and steady demeanor continued to inspire all those who knew her. Even at the very end Karla was a source of comfort for everybody. She left this world with a smile on her face as a final gesture to her family; as if to let them know she was ok. Karla enjoyed traveling and seeing the world, especially ski trips with her husband. She loved to go biking with her father, shopping with her mother, and beating her brother at board games. Karla was a loyal friend who went out of her way when anyone needed her help. Karla was an extraordinary young woman who touched many lives and she will forever be loved and remembered by those who had the privilege of knowing her. She is survived by her husband Tony Davalos and her adoring baby boy Pablo; her parents, Dr. Gonzalo and Patricia Diaz; her brother Gonzalo Diaz; her grandmothers; Carmen Villardaga and Griselda Diaz. Karla will also be missed by loving in-laws, nieces and nephews, numerous cousins, aunts, uncles and long time friends and co-workers. The family would like to thank the Drs and nurses at University Hospital in San Antonio for their compassionate care. In lieu of flowers, her family has requested that gifts be made to support a scholarship in Dr. Karla Diaz Davalos name. This can be done online at http://makelivesbetter.uthscsa.edu/davalos or by mail to the Dr. Karla Diaz Davalos Memorial Fund, UT Health Science Center San Antonio, 7703 Floyd Curl Drive, Mail Code 7835, San Antonio, TX 78229-3900.
