Obituary Condolences

APODACA Kirsten "Kris" Apodaca passed away peacefully on August 13, 2012. Kris was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She was always available for her friends and family, but also shared her love with the community of El Paso where she was a lifelong resident. Kris would also extend herself to those less fortunate than her family as evidenced by her annual Christmas party where she would ask friends to bring gifts for children that may not otherwise experience the joys of Christmas. She always had space at her dinner table and in her home for people needing a loving place. She was the glue that kept her family together in good and bad times, and always was prepared for any situation that may arise. Her life was filled with love, laughter, gatherings at her home, dance, puzzles and art projects. During and after her graduation from Burgess High School she pursued a modeling career in New York. Thereafter, while raising her kids, she was able to transition her love of fashion by opening Kris' Goody Too Shoes, a high-end women's boutique. She had an incredibile sense of style that impacted everything she touched including her family, cooking, gardening, entertaining and her knack for crafts of all kinds. Much of her passion was exhibited as she served as a major volunteer for the Texas Sesquicentennial Ball, YWCA and other charitable causes. She worked endlessly with potential foster parents and to raise money to build the El Paso Juvenile Detention Center with the late Honorable Enrique Pena. She is survived by the love of her life, Vic Apodaca; her children: Michelle "Missy" Apodaca, Trae Apodaca and Senator Tom Apodaca and his wife, Lisa; her grandsons: Cristian, Tate, and Brandon; and her beloved dogs, Charlie and Cheech. She was preceded in death by her parents Sally and Carl Johnson and her brother, Charles Johnson. The family wishes to thank her caretakers: Dr. Dwayne Aboud and his staff, Cyndi Carrasco, Cristina Velasquez, the nurses and staff at Providence Memorial Hospital and Deborah Ruz and her staff at Visiting Nurses Association. A Celebration of Kris' life will be held on Friday, August 17, 2012 at 11:00 am at Martin Funeral Home, 128 North Resler Drive, El Paso. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Humane Society of El Paso, 4991 Fred Wilson, El Paso, TX 79906. Services entrusted to Martin Funeral Home West, 128 N. Resler Dr., El Paso, TX 79912.
