Obituary Condolences

Mary Louise Tichenor, 87, was born in Kansas City, Missouri. She traveled the world with her beloved husband, Keith, a Lt. Col. in the US Air Force, before settling in El Paso in 1970. Throughout her life, Mary followed the path of Christ by dedicating herself to others. Starting with the Parent Teacher Association, Mary became actively involved in her community. She was an assistant coach of a boys' little league team and a Girl Scout leader, and then trained other women to run scout troops. A woman of strong faith, Mary served as secretary to the St. Matthew's Parish Council. Additionally, she and her husband cared for St. Matthew's parishioners as Eucharistic ministers for many years. Mary also worked for Catholic Charities as financial secretary handling donations and correspondence. Hearing Jesus' call to care for those in need, Mary volunteered at three El Paso hospitals tending to patients and their families. Her love and sensitive care were so powerful she was twice recognized for outstanding service to others, first with the Las Palmas Medical Center Medallion, and then the First Humanitarian Award from Columbia Medical Center West. Mary also ran the Los Palmas Hospital Auxiliary for nursing scholarships and helped launch the careers of hundreds of health care professionals. Mary also raised two wonderful daughters, Beth and Louise, and was a loving grandmother to five grandchildren, James, Sarah, Jen, Josh, and Matthew as well as five great grandchildren, Gabe, Jed, Caden, Jillian, and Ariana. Although comforted by knowing Mary sits with Christ in heaven, she is deeply missed by Keith, her husband of 68 years, her family, and all the people who knew her. Mary was interned at Fort Bliss National Cemetery on April 29, 2014. Arrangements under the direction of Martin Funeral Home, El Paso, Texas.
