WILLIAM CHANCELLOR Obituary

William J. (Bill) Chancellor passed away peacefully at his home in El Paso on Feb. 10. Bill was born Dec. 27, 1962 at West Point, New York and had lived in El Paso since 1978. A graduate of Burgess High School, he later received a BFA from the Otis Art Institute of Parson's School of Design in 1990. A life-long lover of all things science fiction and fantasy, he turned his passion and talent into a career in graphic art and design in the horror and fantasy art genre. A respected and well-known artist in his field, he will be greatly missed by family, friends and his fans. Bill is survived by his mother, Georgeanne Chancellor of El Paso, a sister Anne (Kent) Bills and a brother Wayne (Cory) Chancellor and preceded in death by his father George Chancellor. There will be a private family funeral. Friends may visit with the family on Friday February 14, 2014 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the San Jose Funeral Home, 10950 Pellicano Dr. (915) 590-8700.

My condolences to the Chancellor family. Bill was my roommate in 1990. I had the pleasure of seeing him create great works of art and share his passion for world history and politics. I was not close to Bill, but I went to school at Otis with him. His work was well-known, even at the school! Bill is an inspiration, because he took his talent far beyond the classroom walls. His work will speak for him forever.

Bill was a great guy, always kind and an amazing artist. I met him when we were eat Otis Parsons, and a few years ago reconnected on Facebook. It is bitter sweet that I have a copy of each of his calendars he did this past Christmas. I will treasure them but I will miss his jokes and current posts of what he's working on.

I later became a fan of his art and enjoyed memorable and insightful conversations with him via Face Book. He will always be remembered fondly by his friends. Bill and I shared many spirited conversations, arguments, and laughs over the years. It is a shame that this tremendously talented and still relatively young artist will not continue creating visionary work for the decades he should have had left to him. To quote one of the classics of the film genre that Bill so loved: "Let our friend here rest in peace ... while he can."
