United States Air Force Senior Airman Daniel Ray Sanchez, August 30, 1987-September 16, 2010. Our beloved Daniel gave his life while fighting to protect our country. Daniel had incredible energy, always on the go making things happen. Creating art through his sketches, skateboarding, playing sports, and listening and creating music were his favorite pastimes. He inspired us to love life, laugh, and love one another unconditionally. His smile was contagious, his vibrant green eyes were captivating, and his courage was selfless as it was undeniable. In 2005 he graduated from Montwood High School and enlisted in the United States Air Force. His dreams of flying and scuba diving were fulfilled in the 23rd Special Tactics Squadron at Hurlburt Field, Florida. Daniel planned to make the military a career and to become an instructor. The 23rd Special Tactics Unit performed duties, such as, rescue and recovery, battlefield trauma care, direct action, and reconnaissance. One of his favorite quotes was by Theodore Roosevelt "The credit belongs to the man…who spends himself for a worthy cause; who at the best knows in the end the triumph of high achievement, and who at the worst, if he fails, at least fails while daring greatly, so that his place shall never be with those cold and timid souls who neither know victory nor defeat." Our Daniel knew victory due to his perseverance and ultimate sacrifice in Afghanistan. The great loss of our son, brother, grandson, cousin, and friend pierces our hearts and silences our breath. Honoring his loving memory are parents; Yvette Sierra Duchene and Raymond Sanchez, brother; Dakota Duchene, grandparents; Raul Sierra, Irene Sierra, Anna Maria Sierra, Ramon Sanchez, and Gloria Sanchez. Other survivors include cousins; Andee, Delia, Elias, Marli, Julius, and Jalen, girlfriend; Linda Benton, and numerous family members and dear friends. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 22, 2010 at Mt. Carmel Funeral Home from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. with recitation of the rosary at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, September 23, 2010 at 9:30 a.m. at Cielo Vista Church located at 3585 N. Lee Trevino. Interment will follow at Ft. Bliss National Cemetery, with full Military Honors. "Daniel you are the wind beneath our wings; "We will love and honor you the rest of our lives."
