Irma Portillo, 67, went home to the arms of the Lord on May 18, 2013. She was a longtime member of First Baptist Church of El Paso where she sang in the choir and served as a soloist for special performances. For many years, Irma was a guest performer with the El Paso Symphony Orchestra and also sang principle roles with the UTEP Music Department. More recently she enjoyed performing with the Bruce Nehring Consort. Her love of music and devotion to education led her to serve as a school teacher for over 30 years. But Irma's most cherished roles were that of wife, mother and grandmother. She was a devout Christian who instilled in her children a love for the Lord. She was a dedicated and loving wife who always put the needs of her family before her own. Irma was dearly loved and will be greatly missed. She is survived by her children: Hope Seamster, Salvador Portillo and his wife Donna Bella, and three grandchildren. Our songbird is now rejoicing with the choirs of heaven. Visitation will be Tuesday, May 21, 2013 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Kastor-Maxon & Futrell Funeral Home, 8817 Dyer St. Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, May 22, 2013 at 12:30 p.m. at First Baptist Church, 805 Montana Ave. Interment will follow at 2:00 p.m. in Fort Bliss National Cemetery.
