Obituary Condolences

Long time El Paso resident Arnold Wilhelm Stenrose, age 96, died peacefully at home May 27, 2014. He was the son of Johan and Helmi Stenrose. In 1945 he married Marie Doyle in Lowell, MA, and moved to El Paso, TX in 1960. Survivors include his sister Alina Smith; his children Paul, Kenneth, Mark, and Karen; his grandchildren Robert, Jonathan, Thomas and Christine; and great-grandchild Griffin. Arnold was a B17 and B24 bomber pilot during World War II. During the Berlin Airlift, he flew cargo planes filled with life-saving food and supplies to the German people. After the War, he was a C97 pilot and B52 pilot for the USAF. During the Cold War, he was a Strategic Air Command B52 pilot and test pilot for the KC135 refueling tanker and 700 series jet airplanes. In retirement he was active in golfing and skiing. He volunteered for 30 years as a member of the National Ski Patrol's Rocky Mountain Division, primarily at the Ski Apache ski resort in Ruidoso, New Mexico. Martin's Mortuary on Montana Drive in El Paso will coordinate activities. Military services will be on the 70th Anniversary of D-Day at the Fort Bliss National Cemetery. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, please send donations to Lighthouse for the Blind.
