Ruben Cortés Obituary
Ruben Cortés, a longtime resident of El Paso, born on August 22, 1928 entered into heaven on July 3rd to be with his wife Maria Elena Cortés with whom he had six children. He was a great diesel mechanic; a skill he learned from his father by age 15. He was a loving father, grandfather and mentor. Ruben liked to go have coffee with his family and share stories about his youth, and beloved town of Guadalupe, Mexico. He was known for frequenting the same favorite restaurants and making friends with the staff. He was generous with his money and his advice, always willing to give his two cents from his personal experience. For many years, he raised game roosters as a hobby, and enjoyed teaching his young grandchildren in the sport. Mr. Cortés is survived by his sons Ruben Cortez Jr. (Rosa), David "Gorby" Cortes (Elizabeth) and daughters Maria Cruz Briseño (Wenceslao), Maria Elena Rodriguez (Fernando), Maria Guadalupe Barroso (Juan) and Maria R. Cortés Gonzalez (Juan G.). Other survivors include his grandchildren: Rosario, Carlos, Xavier, Helen, Ruben, Carla, Omar, Vanessa, Ivan, David, Melissa, Priscilla, Francesca, Sydnee, Samantha, Viannka, Sasha, JuanDiego, Nikolas, Katya and seven great grandchildren. Visitation will be Monday, July 7th from 5:00 - 9:00 p.m.; vigil at 7:00 p.m. at Mt. Carmel Funeral Home. Mass will be on Tuesday, July 8th at Cristo Rey Catholic Church at 9:00 a.m.
