MARGARET PARKER Obituary
Margaret "Peggy" Parker. Peggy was born April 12, 1924 in Silver City, NM, where her parents, Melvin H. Porterfield and Hazel Hopkins Porterfield were living. She died at the age of 90 at the Center for Compassionate Care Hospice on July 14. She grew up as a tomboy, climbing trees, riding her grandfather's cavalry saddle up on saw horses, and finding animals to take care of. She attended New Mexico A&M as one of the first women in Agriculture and Animal Husbandry. There she met her husband, John Robert Parker, a returning veteran. They married in July, 1945. Johnny was a farmer and shared Peggy's love of the outdoors and animals. They had a small farm in Canutillo, but this happy time ended with Johnny's death in 1979. Peggy had already joined the Mormon Church, and the support and caring of the Sisters and Brothers have sustained her long widowhood. Her nieces, Jody and Susan thank the Redd Road Stake, her Canutillo friends and neighbors, Cassie Workman, her care-giver, and the Hospice nurses for their loving care of her. A service celebrating her life will be held at the Church of Latter Day Saints on Redd Road on Saturday, July 19 at 10:00. Viewing at 9:00. No flowers please. Remember the Humane Society to honor Peggy.
