Obituary Condolences

Eileen Licht passed away peacefully on August 16, 2014 at the age of 87.She is pre-deceased by her husband, Fred, and daughter, Karen. Eileen is survived by her daughters, Joan (son-in-law Kenneth Korn) and Barbara (son-in-law Fernando Hijar); grandchildren, Rebecca (Traylyn) and Ben (Alissa); and her 2 great-grandchildren, Liat and Asher. Eileen was born in Brooklyn, New York and attended Hunter College before "hitting the road" as part of a singing trio which toured the eastern US in the 40's. She returned to New York and married her handsome Navy man, Fred. They moved to El Paso in 1953 where they raised their family. Eileen was an active member of the El Paso Jewish community, Congregation B'nai Zion, and a former docent at the El Paso Holocaust Museum. For many years she sang and acted in local community theater productions including starring roles in Mame and Applause, but will always be remembered for her defining role as Mama Rose in Gypsy. She was a popular and talented substitute teacher at Coronado HS, Franklin HS, and Lincoln MS. Eileen was a Mah Jong maven and played Pan until recently. She will be remembered as a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend to many. Her wit, wisdom, and wonderful talents will live on. She will forever be a "Pillar of the Community." Graveside service will be held on Monday, August 18 at 11:00AM at B'nai Zion Cemetery, 3915 Gateway West, El Paso, TX 79903, with Rabbi Larry Bach officiating. Pallbearers will be: Traylyn Evans, Scott Feldt, Alfred Gladstein, Fernando Hijar, and Michael Tomor. Honorary Pallbearer: Beano Chasens In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Congregation B'nai Zion, 805 Cherry Hill Lane, El Paso, TX 79912. Services entrusted to Martin Funeral Home West, 128 N. Resler Dr. El Paso, TX 79912.
