Obituary Condolences

Dr. Irvin J. Goldfarb died Sunday, 24 August 2014 surrounded by family. Born in El Paso at Hotel Dieu Hospital on February 12, 1925, he attended Morehead Elementary and El Paso High where he graduated at the age of 16. He continued his education at the College of Mines and Metallurgy (now UTEP) until volunteering for the US Navy during WW II. He completed officer training school at Columbia, Harvard and TCU and served as chief communications officer during the war. After the war, he was accepted to medical school at UT Southwestern in Dallas. He married the love of his life, Alma Jean Cohn after his second year of medical school. After finishing medical school, he began his residency in internal medicine before finding his true passion, pediatrics. Dr. Goldfarb returned to El Paso where he began his 40 year private practice as a pediatrician. After retiring from private practice, he served on the faculty of the Paul L. Foster School of Medicine and as a pediatrician for the city of El Paso and Le Fey Clinic. Dr. Goldfarb was an active member and former board member of Congregation B'Nai Zion and shared many interests with his wife Alma including traveling the world, singing in the High Holiday choir, community theatre, league bowling, and supporting the El Paso Opera and Symphony. Dr. Goldfarb was preceded in death by his parents, Sol and Leona Goldfarb, the love of his life Alma and his brother Bill. He is survived by his brother Bobby, five children, Rabbi Steve Goldfarb and his wife Dina, Jimmy and his wife Joyce, Lorry Hartley and her husband Greg, Chuck and his wife Anne, Ben and his wife Renee, eighteen grandchildren, Shlomo, Shmuel, Itzhak, Bat-el, Shira, Shifra, Aviva, Ilan, Noam, Dr. Meagan Bailey, Rachel, Jake, Saul, Naomi, Ayelet, Avarham Yair, Ariella and Avia and twenty great-grandchildren. The family would like to thank his caregivers Edna Lovich, Lane and Dallas Stevens and the amazing staff at Royal Esates. Graveside Service will be held on Wednesday, August 27, 2014 at 3:00 pm at B'Nai Zion Cemetery, 3915 Gateway West, El Paso, Texas 79903.
