AMELIA KROHN Obituary

Amelia Goodman Krohn was born on September 20, 1923 in Santa Monica, California and lived her happy, productive life among family and friends in the city of El Paso until her death on November 20, 2012. Amelia graduated from Austin High in 1941 and Goucher College in 1945. She was predeceased by her parents, Leonard A. Goodman and Evelyn P. Goodman, her brothers, Leonard A. Goodman, Jr., "Nardo," Robert E. Goodman, "Beto," and her husband, Albert M. Krohn, "Tito". Her time on earth was spent in earnest effort to enrich her family, her many friends and El Paso, the city she loved. Her devotion to the El Paso community spanned more than 60 years. Amelia was both passionate and committed to the health and welfare of less fortunate children and families residing in the El Paso area. For over 30 years, Amelia was involved as a volunteer, employee or board member of the El Paso County and State Child Welfare units. In addition to her work on behalf of Child Welfare, Amelia also was extensively involved in a number of community activities. Her activities included serving as the Second President of the P.T.A. at Western Hill Elementary, as a board member of the El Paso YWCA, a co-founder of the El Paso Drive?A-Meal, board member of the El Paso Council on Alcoholism and Rehabilitation, a Vice President of the National Council of Jewish Women, a board member of the United Way Community planning division, and recently, as Chair of the El Paso/Ciudad Juarez Pan American Roundtable. It will be the smaller acts for which Amelia will be most fondly remembered. Amelia inherited the ability to laugh at herself and share her sense of humor with others. It was rare that a friend endured an illness where Amelia, unbidden, would not appear with an array of comforting food and concern for the individual's well-being. Amelia reached out to everyone and befriended those that she encountered. In addition to her many friends, Amelia is survived by her children Lynn of Emeryville, CA; Matt and wife Elizabeth of Houston; Doug and wife Monique of Basking Ridge NJ; and Jim and wife Patricia of Dallas; her grandchildren, Nicholas and his wife Joy, Daniel, Alit, Jeremy, Andy and Mallory; Alex and Meaghan; Austin and Logan; and her great-granddaughter Evelyn. We would like to thank Amelia's care providers: Sylvia Sianez, Nancy Ronyak, Jennifer Quintana, Marie Herrera, Mary Saenz and others that provided an unparalleled and compassionate care for Amelia during the winter of her life. She will be remembered for the acts of love and kindness she performed. Her memory will be a blessing for those whom she touched in life. A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, November 23, 2012 at 10:30 AM at Temple Mt. Sinai, 4408 N. Stanton St., El Paso, Texas 79902. Interment will follow at Mt. Sinai Cemetery. Amelia was a friend, date and classmate in High School and I adored her and all she stood for. She was my neighbor in her last years. I know she will be missed by so many. Condolences to her family,
