Lois Woo Chew, 89, passed away on January 11, 2013. Lois was born in Denver, CO on May 12, 1923. Her father relocated the family to Hong Kong so that they could be raised in the Chinese culture. Lois returned to the United States upon marrying Ralph Chew. They settled in El Paso, TX where they owned and managed their grocery store starting at Pershing Drive and then relocating the business to the Lower Valley on Alameda Avenue (Chew Din Grocery). Lois worked with Ralph throughout the years until their retirement from the grocery business in 1982, over 40 years. She was a founding member of the Chinese Baptist Church here in El Paso and was active in the Women's Adult Bible study of this church. In 1992, Lois and Ralph attended a dedication ceremony of the addition of the new wing to the Su Kai Village, China in honor of Ralph's father (Chew Din); Lois and Ralph were the only members of the Chew family instrumental in the successful completion of this school addition. She was dedicated to her family and is survived by her children: Hainie Chew, Son (El Paso); Lois Chew Wakimoto, Daughter; Jennifer Wakimoto, Granddaughter; Laine Wakimoto Pike, Granddaughter and her husband Trent Pike (all residing in AZ); sister-in-law Peggy Woo of San Francisco, CA, and Esther Lew of Houston, TX, including numerous nephew and nieces residing throughout the United States. Visitation will be held on Friday, February 1, 2013 from 5-9pm at Funeraria Del Angel Kaster-Maxon & Futrell. Funeral Service will be held Saturday, February 2, 2013 at 11:00am at Funeraria Del Angel Kaster-Maxon & Futrell. Interment to immediately follow at Restlawn Memorial Park.
