ART MAYA

Art Maya, Jr. passed away March 26, 2015. A gifted and talented musician and artist, he was a true man of the southwest. Art Maya was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, and leaves behind many wonderful memories to his family. Born and raised in El Paso, Art spent his time working as a law enforcement officer for a short time, but returned to his true love of woodcarving and music. He contributed many pieces to various businesses and organizations and continued to create some of his best work till the very end. He worked along side his wife, and best friend, Joyce, spending many days cooking, painting, and enjoying the desert. He was a true friend to many, and kind to strangers. Art will be missed, but his spirit lives on in the art that surrounds his home, and in the hearts of those who knew and loved him dearly. Art is preceded in death by his father, Arturo Maya, Sr., his mother Julieta Lucero Maya, and his brothers Alfredo Maya, and Richard Maya. Art is survived by his loving wife, Joyce, his sons Art Maya III, (wife Sara Maya), Christopher Maya (wife Kristi Maya), his daughters, Michelle Ayoub (husband JR), and Andrea Lee (husband Rob). His loving grandchildren, Mary Bunce, Claire Sylvester, Emilee Hunsucker, Roger James Spain, Brooke Paxson, Grant Paxson, and Madison Lee also survive him. We will miss you Papa. May you rest and peace, and we hope you are singing with your hero Marty Robbins. Funeral Mass will be held Monday, March 30, 2015 at St. Matthews Catholic Church at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow at Memorial Pines Cemetery. Services directed by San Jose Funeral Home, 915-532-1856.
