Elbert, Denis J.  
Denis J. Elbert, 69, Washington, passed away Monday, Aug. 24, 2015, after a long battle with cancer. Denis was born Feb. 20, 1946, in Washington, the son of Norbert Elbert and wife Lorraine, nee Nowak. He was united in marriage to Judy Smith Jan. 20, 1973, at Holy Family Catholic Church near Port Hudson. Denis was a strong, kind and gentle person. He was a devoted and loving husband and father. His children and two grandchildren were his pride and joy, and all will miss him dearly. Denis is survived by his wife, Judy Elbert; two sons, Chad Elbert, Marthasville, and David Elbert and wife Jill, Washington; six siblings, Terry Elbert, Sullivan, Tom Elbert and wife Janice, Tim Elbert and wife Kelly, Linda Lause and husband Steve, Laurice Glosemeyer and husband Mark, all of Washington, and Diane VanBooven and husband Bernie, Villa Ridge; two grandchildren, Braden and McKenzie Elbert; other relatives and friends. Visitation will be held Wednesday, Aug. 26, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Miller Funeral Home, Washington. A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 27, at St. Francis Borgia Catholic Church, Washington. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Memorial donations may be given to St. Francis Borgia Church or the Elbert grandchildren education fund. Make checks payable to Judy Elbert. The Elbert family is being served by Miller Funeral Home, Washington.

Elliott, Steven H.  
Steven Henry Elliott, 58, Union, passed away Friday, Aug. 21, 2015, at his home, surrounded by his family. Steve was born Aug. 2, 1956, in Shannon, Miss., the son of Henry Elliott and wife Edna, nee^ Jones. Steve graduated from McClure North High School in 1974, and later attended East Central College, Union, and Lindenwood University, St. Charles, where he earned his bachelor's degree. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy, from Dec. 31, 1974, until he was honorably discharged Dec. 11, 1978. He also served in the Missouri National Guard Reserves from 1981 to 1983. Steve was united in marriage to Barb Stallmann Jan. 29, 1983, in New Haven. The couple made their home in Union. Steve was a captain for the Franklin County Sheriff's Department, with plans to retire at the end of 2015. He began his law enforcement career with the Union Police Department in 1986 and joined the Franklin County Sheriff's Office in 1987. During his 28 years with the Sheriff's Office, he served as the Chief of Custody, Patrol Commander, Drug Task Force Commander, SWAT Commander and FBI Certified Crisis Negotiator. Capt. Elliott was an expert in the field of Defensive Tactics and Use of Force to include testifying on a state and federal level as an expert witness. Capt. Elliott served in the role of instructor for the Missouri Corp., the Missouri Sheriff's Training Academy. He was a graduate of the FBI National Academy and a charter member of the Missouri Deputy Sheriff's Association. Steve was a martial arts instructor under Guro Dan Inosanto and Master Ajarn Chai. He was an active member of Immaculate Conception Church and belonged to the Knights of Columbus. Steve was a member of the Sons of the Legion, American Legion Post 297, and was an honor guard member. Steve enjoyed playing the guitar and singing, martial arts, golfing, motorcycle riding with his wife, and spending time with his family. He especially enjoyed being a loving and devoted PoPo to his grandchildren. Steve is survived by his wife, Barb Elliott, Union; three daughters, Heather Rehling and husband Brian, Chesterfield, Elizabeth Elliott, Eugene, Ore., and Ashton Schultz and husband Michael, Union; three grandchildren, Grant, Sydney and Mason; his mother, Edna Elliott, Union; two sisters, Debi Elliott-White and husband Dewey, Union, and Sherry Salvo and husband Cy, St. Charles; one brother, Rick Elliott and wife Kris, Union; one sister-in-law, Diane Elliott, Illinois state; his mother-in-law, Dolores Stallmann, Union; nieces; nephews; other relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Henry Elliott; one brother, Nick Elliott; and his father-in-law, John Stallmann. A memorial Mass was held Wednesday Aug. 26, at 10 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Church, Union, with the Rev. Joe Post officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Immaculate Conception School Security Fund or the Sons of the American Legion Post 297. The Elliott family was served by Oltmann Funeral Home, Union.
