Marvin C. Pointer, 89, New Haven, passed away Sunday, June 19, 2016, at Mercy Hospital Washington. Marvin was born in Belle Sept. 28, 1926, the son of George Pointer and wife Martha, nee Schultz. He was the widower of Nellie Pointer, nee McKernan. They were married Jan. 9, 1954, in New Haven. Nellie preceded Marvin in death March 13, 2008. Marvin proudly served in the U.S. Army. He worked as a supervisor for American Recreation Products. Prior to that, Marvin worked for Missouri Pacific Railroad. He was a member of the New Haven American Legion for 70 years. In his free time, Marvin enjoyed watching the St. Louis Cardinals, and Mizzou football and basketball. He also loved playing cards, both pinochle and poker. Marvin is survived by one daughter, Sheila Jo Martens and husband Dwayne, New Haven; one son, Michael Pointer and wife Cindy, New Haven; one grandson, Andrew Pointer and wife Star, Union; and two great-grandchildren, Mason and Ava Pointer. He was preceded in death by his wife; parents; one brother, Red Pointer; two sisters, Dorothy Smith and Alice Horstman; and one granddaughter, Kyla Pointer. Visitation was scheduled for Tuesday, June 21, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Toedtmann-Grosse Funeral Home, New Haven, where funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 22, at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at New Haven Cemetery, with full military honors. Memorials may be given to the American Heart Association or American Diabetes Association. The Pointer family is being served by Toedtmann-Grosse Funeral Home, New Haven.
