Alcuin Finder, known as "Al," 83, Washington, passed away Saturday, June 1, 2013, in Washington.
He was born Feb. 8, 1930, in Melrose, Minn., the son of the late William Finder and wife Mary, nee Pohlmann. Al received his education at Holy Family Catholic School, Port Hudson.
He served his country in the U.S. Army in the Korean War
from Sept. 7, 1951, to July 25, 1953. While serving, Al received a commendation medal for his actions.
On Sept. 13, 1958, he was united in marriage to LaVern Mann at Holy Family Church, Port Hudson. The couple made their home in Washington. Al was employed as a carpenter in St. Louis until his retirement. He was a member of the Carpenters Union Local 1839 and St. Francis Borgia Church, Washington.
Al was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Norbert, Eugene and Ervin Finder; and two sisters, Rosemary Gumpenberger and Lorraine Kleinheider.
He is survived by his wife, LaVern Finder, Washington; one brother-in-law, Everett Gumpenberger, Washington; two sisters-in-law, Berniece Studt, Bridgeton, and Jeanette Finder, Union; nieces and nephews; other relatives and many friends.
A funeral Mass was held Wednesday, June 5, at 10 a.m. at St. Francis Borgia Church, Washington, with the Rev. Andrew Sigmund officiating.
Burial followed in the church cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to Cardinal Glennon Children's Hospital or St. Francis Borgia Church are preferred.
