Alfred G. Terschluse

Rodney Paul Smith, 54, Dittmer, passed away Monday, Jan. 14, 2013, at his home.

Mr. Smith, son of Robert Evans Smith and wife Margaret Joan, nee Pchole, was born Aug. 27, 1958, in St. Louis.

Rodney was preceded in death by his father, Robert E. Smith; brother, Robert J. Smith; two sisters, Pamela Davis and Sloane Smith; and three nephews, Michael Campbell, Justin Austin, and Jason Hendrix.

He is survived by his mother, Margaret Smith, Dittmer; brother, Darryl Smith and wife Tricia, Rogersville; two sisters, Sandra Shawcross and husband Robert, Ozark and Peggy Austin, St. Clair; one niece, Danielle Shawcross, Dittmer; one brother-in-law, Charlie Davis, Dittmer; one step-niece, Sandra Shawcross; one step-nephew, Steve Shawcross; one aunt, cousins, other relatives, and many friends.

Rodney was a Christian, believing in the Lord as his Savior. He had previously been employed by Asplundh Tree Expert Company and most recently owned and operated R&S Carpet and Cleaning Company in Dittmer. Rodney had been a past member of Laborers International Union of North America. He was also a past member of the Elks Lodge in Cedar Hill. He had a variety of interests throughout life, his favorite sport being drag racing. He also had an interest in collecting antiques and unusual objects. Rodney enjoyed going arrowhead hunting with friends. What meant the most to Rodney was time spent with his family. For the past several years, he was the primary caregiver for his mother. The love they shared and the wonderful memories they created will be cherished by all of them forever.

A celebration of life will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 2, at Pegg's Restaurant, 3025 High Ridge Blvd., High Ridge. A private committal will take place at a later date. Memorials may be made to the or to the Multiple Sclerosis Society.
