Arlie F. Rettke, 89, Washington, passed away Sunday, Sept. 23, 2012, at New Haven Care Center, New Haven.
Mr. Rettke was born June 8, 1923, in Washington, the son of the late Julius Rettke and wife Dehlia, nee Welker.
He was united in marriage to Ludell Buenemann Feb. 8, 1947, at St. Peter's United Church of Christ, Washington.
Mr. Rettke is survived by his wife, Ludell Rettke, Washington; one son, Gary Rettke and wife Mary Beth, Washington; two daughters, Diane Schatte and Devonne Manhart and husband Tony, all of Washington; one grandson, Daniel Rettke, St. Louis; four granddaughters, Michelle Roettering and husband Ty, Washington, Rebecca Brown and husband Wayne, Union, Cara Hiripitiyage and husband Dinesh and Gina Braden and husband Casey, all of St. Louis; six great-grandchildren, Trey and Lane Roettering, Washington, Kiersten Brown and Jennifer Brown and fiancé Willie Lewis, all of Union, Corrin Hiripitiyage and Parker Braden, all of St. Louis; other relatives and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Julius and Dehlia Rettke; two sisters, Bernice Schroeder and Eileen Fowler; one great-grandson, Derek Brown; and one son-in-law, Robert Schatte.
Mr. Rettke was proud to have served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II
He was a member of St. Peter's United Church of Christ, Washington.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, Sept. 26, at St. Peter's United Church of Christ, Washington, with the Rev. Paul Koch officiating.
Interment followed in the church cemetery.
Memorials to St. Peter's United Church of Christ, Washington, or New Haven Care Center, New Haven, are preferred.
