Ervin Henry Rasch, 90, St. Clair, departed this life Sunday, April 13, 2014, in St. Clair.
Ervin, son of the late Christ J. Rasch and wife Eleanor, nee Rasucher, was born Jan. 3, 1924, in Des Peres. He was united in marriage to Leota May Marks, nee Hacker, known to all as Lee, Aug. 13, 1958, and they were blessed with five children.
Ervin was a Christian having been raised in the Lutheran faith. He was proud to have served his country during World War II
in the U.S. Army
, entering Dec. 11, 1944, and receiving his honorable discharge Nov. 10, 1946. He was a member of St. Clair American Legion Post 347. During his working years, Ervin was employed as a gas truck driver for Commercial Cartage Company, St. Louis, retiring after 19 years of service. He was also a retiree of Teamster Local 618, St. Louis. Ervin enjoyed many hobbies and interests, but especially liked to go fishing. He was an avid Cardinals baseball fan, and enjoyed watching the games on television. He was happiest when he was spending time with his family.
Ervin is survived by his wife, Lee Rasch, St. Clair; five children, Chuck Marks and wife Sandy, St. Clair, Harold Rasch and wife Faith, Chesterfield, Jeanne Bommel, Ballwin, Terry Rasch, Hazelwood, and Tom Rasch, Anchor Point, Alaska; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews; great- and great-great-nieces and -nephews; cousins; other relatives and many friends.
Ervin was preceded in death by his parents, Christ J. and Eleanor Rasch; and one sister, Marie Sontag.
A graveside service, with full military honors, was held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 16, at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, St. Louis, with the Rev. Duane Banderman officiating.
