Jean Morgan Obituary

Jean Emily Morgan, nee Jansen, 88, formerly of Union, passed away peacefully Thursday July 25, 2013, at Cedarcrest Manor, Washington, where she had been a resident since breaking her hip over three years ago.

Jean was the daughter of late longtime Union residents Ralph Jansen and wife Julia, nee Bergmann. She was born Nov. 7, 1924, in a home just off the northwest corner of the courthouse square, in the upstairs room of the current Franklin County Historical Museum, the former Hansen house in what was then Jansen Electric and Appliance store.

Jean went to school in Union. She met and married her husband Herbert Morgan and became a mother to their only child, Ralph Morgan. She worked for most of her career at the Farmers Home Administration Office, Union. She served in various civic, church and other community organizations too numerous to list. Jean also was an accomplished artist and was not afraid to tackle any media and turn just about anything into art. For many years she also enjoyed writing a weekly column in the local Missourian newspaper titled "Meanderings."

Later in life, Jean remained active in the community, including serving on the Union Planning and Zoning committee, helping at the Union Senior Center, enjoying her flower gardens and spending time with her many friends.

Jean was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert Morgan; parents, Ralph and Julia Jansen; and one sister and brother-in-law, Katheryn and Lew Schmelz.

She is survived by one son, Ralph Morgan and wife Sherry, nee Perryman, Shawnee, Okla.; one granddaughter, Brittany Perryman; one grandson, Johnathan Perryman; numerous great-grandchildren; one nephew, Jan Schmelz and wife Brenda, and their sons, Eddie Schmelz and Brent Schmelz, and their families; and many friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Franklin County Senior Center Foundation.

The Morgan family was served by Oltmann Funeral Home, Union.
