Jewell Elzy Jones, 73, Lonedell, passed away Saturday, Sept. 28, 2013, in Fenton.
Jewell, son of the late John Franklin Jones and wife Anna G., nee Hurt, was born Nov. 23, 1939, in Middle Brook. He was united in marriage to Rosa "Rose" Lou Swink Feb. 13, 1960, and three children came to bless this union.
Jewell was a Christian and member of Oak Grove Baptist Church, Lonedell. He was a 50-year member of Boilermakers Union Local 27 and worked as a welder out of the union hall. He also was a member of Fenton Lodge 281 A.F. and A.M., entering Feb. 11, 1983. Jewell was an outdoorsman at heart, and his passions included fishing, hunting, trapping and tending bee-hives. He loved to garden, raise cows and ride horses. He also worked as a farrier. At one time, he operated the Double J Arena for horse shows. What meant most to Jewell was time spent with his family. The love they shared and many memories they created will forever live in their hearts, as will his keen sense of humor.
Jewell was preceded in death by his parents, John Franklin and Anna G. Jones; two brothers, Carl Jones and Charles "Chuck" Jones; and four sisters, Pauline Mathis, Ilene McClure, Betty Mathis and Doris Bone.
He is survived by his wife, Rose Jones, Lonedell; two sons, Jeff Jones and girlfriend Michelle, and David Jones and wife Lora, all of Lonedell; one daughter, Sherry Steele and husband Mark, Lonedell; one brother, Clifford Jones and wife Arlene, Fredericktown; one sister, Gwen Jones and husband James, Fredericktown; mother-in-law, Pauline Swink, Lonedell; seven grandchildren, Dannelle Littler and husband Matthew, Sara Steele, David Jones Jr., Jonathan Jones, and Emma Jones, all of Lonedell, Nick Westrich, Washington, and Shylynn Missey and husband William, San Diego, Calif.; two sisters-in-law; nieces; nephews; great- and great-great-nieces and -nephews; cousins; other relatives and many friends.
Visitation was held from 3 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 2, at Russell Colonial Funeral Home, St. Clair, with Masonic services at 7 p.m. Visitation continued from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 3, at Cole Family Funeral Home, Ironton.
A funeral service was held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 3, at Cole Family Funeral Home, Ironton, with the Rev. Glenn Hammond and the Rev. Bud Lawson officiating.
Interment was in Iron Mountain Cemetery, Middle Brook. Memorials may be given to Oak Grove Baptist Church, Lonedell.
The Jones family was served by Russell Colonial Funeral Home, St. Clair, and Cole Family Funeral Home, Ironton.
