Leland A. Calvin, 91, Washington, passed away Thursday, Jan. 16, 2014, in Washington.
Leland, son of the late Jesse J. Calvin and wife Clara, nee Glavin, was born Feb. 24, 1922, in Labadie. He received his education from Labadie Grade School and Washington High School. He was united in marriage to Mary Louise Bihr Feb. 13, 1945. Leland was employed by Kroger for 45 years as a manager in the meat department. He was a member of the Elks Lodge
. 2661, Knights of Columbus and St. Francis Borgia Church. He served his country honorably as a member of the U. S. Army in World War II
. Leland enjoyed bowling, hunting and fishing as a child. He was an avid sports fan. His greatest joys were watching his children and grandchildren participate in sporting events.
Leland was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Louise Calvin; parents, Jesse J. and Clara Calvin; two sisters, Peggy Heller and Lucille Wagner; two brothers, James Calvin and Jesse E. Calvin; and one grandson, Christopher William Calvin.
He is survived by two sons, Tom Calvin and wife Judi, Sullivan, and Tim Calvin and wife Carla, Murfreesboro, Tenn.; one daughter, Debbie Brinker and husband Matt, Washington; one sister, Marcella Vossbrink, Washington; eight grandchildren, Meg Vogel and husband Gary, Jenny Hoffman, Steve Calvin, Sarah Harris and husband Ben, Mike Calvin, Ryan Brinker, Madison Brinker and Nicole Brinker; 11 great-grandchildren, Ben Chapman, Clay Chapman, Sam Chapman, Logan Hoffman, Lauren Hoffman, Landon Hoffman, Sophia Harris, Colten Harris, Hudson Harris, Braden Harris and Elli Harris; other relatives and many friends.
A memorial Mass was held Tuesday, Jan. 21, at St. Francis Borgia Church, Washington, with the Rev. Brian Hecktor officiating.
