Richard L. Adams(1944 - 2013)

Richard Lewis Adams, 69, Washington, passed away Friday, June 28, 2013, at his home.

Rich, son of the late Everett Adams and wife Eva Alfreda, nee Head, was born May 6, 1944, in Macon. He served his country in the U. S. Army and received an honorable discharge. He was united in marriage to Brenda Lawrence Jan. 15, 1966, in Kansas City.

Rich was the owner and president of Express Delivery Services, Inc., St. Louis, until his retirement in 2010. He was an active member of American Legion Post 218, Washington, and served as a past director for the American Legion Riders, Washington.

Rich was an avid motorcycle enthusiast over the years, traveling 36 states with his wife, Brenda. He had a knack for woodworking. Several family members proudly own a piece of his handcrafted furniture. Rich had a passion for post World War II history, a biography was always in his hand. He never met a stranger; anyone pulling a chair up next to him made a new friend. He touched many lives and will be truly missed.

Rich was preceded in death by his parents, Everett and Eva Alfreda Adams.

He is survived by his wife, Brenda Adams, Washington; three daughters, Michele Adams, St. Louis, Cyndi Dyer and partner A.J. Ford, Manchester, and Francine Adams, Washington; one granddaughter, Violet Layne Dyer; one brother, Robert James and partner Terri Renick, Beaufort; six sisters, Liz Ricci, Nixa, Kay (Larry) Crow, Macon, Pat (John Wayne) McCain, Roanoke, Ala., Terri (Rick) Johnson, Cairo, Sherri (Ernie) Britt, Calleo, and Tammi (Tony) Fiedler, Kansas City; other relatives and many friends.

Private graveside services will be held at the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery, Jacksonville.
