Tommy R. Hallam(1938 - 2013)

Tommy Ray Hallam, 74, left this world Monday, June 17, 2013, in Brooksville, Fla.

Tommy, son of Edgar Lee Hallam and wife Marie Hope, was born Nov. 28, 1938, in Doniphan. In the early working years of his life, Tommy was a meat cutter with Krey Meat Packing Company, St. Louis, where he made many lifelong friendships. He was most successful and admired for his nearly 20 years as a drug and alcohol counselor. He was owner and operator of Missouri Alcohol Assessment Consultants, Inc., Union. He held the title of Certified Reciprocal Advanced Alcohol Drug Counselor for the state of Missouri, and was a board member and regional representative for the state of Missouri Addiction Counselor Association. He helped to change many lives while holding these positions, and for this his family is most proud and grateful.

Tommy loved to fish and visit with friends and family. He was the happiest while in the company of fellow Alcoholics Anonymous members either in a casual setting, a meeting or helping a newcomer. He truly wanted others to know the peace and the relationship with God that he found through the program. He celebrated 40 years of sobriety with family and friends on March 23, 2013, in Florida.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edgar Lee and Marie Hope Hallam-Mathis; beloved brothers, Billy Hallam and Bobby Hallam; and the mother of his two daughters, Barbara Ann Whitney-Petty.

He left behind two daughters, Michelle Leeper and husband Paul, Lecanto, Fla., and Melissa Rozelle and husband Cecil Dye, Homosassa, Fla.; five grandchildren, Jeremy Rose, Ocala, Fla., Jennifer McCreary and husband Paul, Citrus Springs, Fla., Bethany Tidwell and husband Tony, Homosassa, Fla., Tricia Durham, Inverness, Fla., and Jacob Leeper, Lecanto, Fla. The joy of his life was his six great-grandchildren, Matthew Gerhart, Marissa Rose, Ian Rose, Aidan McCreary, Nathan Tidwell and Natalee Tidwell. Other survivors include one sister, Susie Stewart and husband Jerry, Doniphan; one brother, Teddy Hallam, Metaire, La.; two sisters-in-law, Christine Skipper-Hallam, St. Charles, and Doris Hallam, St. Peters; many nieces; nephews; cousins; great-nieces; great-nephews; close friends and business associates.

A funeral service will be held at Midlawn Funeral Home, Union, on Thursday, June 27. The family will receive visitors from 4 to 6 p.m., with the service to follow at 6 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you follow Tommy's example and give your money, time or talent toward helping someone else to find sobriety and a relationship with our Lord.
