Bobby Gene Read Obituary
Bobby Gene Read, known to most as Bob, 82, departed this life Friday, Nov. 10, 2017, in Washington.

Bob, son of William Joseph Read and Beatrice Read, nee Dimmett, was born April 13, 1935, in Greenfield. On Oct. 3, 1954, he was united in marriage to Dorothy Frances Henderson and four children came to bless this union.

Bob was a Christian and faithful longtime active member of Friendship Missionary Baptist Church, St. Clair. He was a retiree of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America, Local 1596 of St. Louis. Bob could fix anything and for about 20 years he worked as the maintenance coordinator for Six Flags, Eureka. Since his retirement he enjoyed tinkering in his shop and loved to put things back together. He was truly a family man at heart and nothing was more important to him than caring for his home and family. He enjoyed spending time outdoors, especially relaxing on the patio with Dorothy. He was happiest when he was surrounded by his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and many wonderful memories have been created.

Bob is survived by his wife, Dorothy Read, St. Clair; by one son, Stephen Read and wife Betsy, St. Clair; by his daughters, Cindy Piontek and husband Robbie, St. Clair, and Karen Rinne and husband Kelly, Union; by six grandchildren, Ryan Read and wife Stephanie, Hillsboro, Jeff Read and wife Erin, St. Clair, Ashley Varner and husband Derk, St. Clair, Taylor Piontek, Nashville, Tenn., and Olivia and Emma Rinne, both of Union; by four great-grandchildren; brothers- and sisters-in-law; nieces; nephews; great- and great-great-nieces and nephews; cousins and many friends.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, William and Beatrice Read; one son, Timothy A. Read; one brother, William Read; and two sisters, Lucille Rantz and Geraldine Smith.

Visitation was held Monday, Nov. 13, at Russell Colonial Funeral Home, St. Clair.

A funeral service was held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 14, at Friendship Missionary Baptist Church, St. Clair, with the Rev. John Dover officiating.
