Brother Charles Franklin Herron, 75, Robertsville, passed away Wednesday, July 24, 2013, surrounded by the love of his family at his home. |
Charles, son of the late Leonard Herron and wife Carrie, nee Travis, was born May 28, 1938, in Evansville, Ind. He was united in marriage to Sylvia Carlette Spicer, known to all as Carlette, Dec. 31, 1956, and five children came to bless this union.
Charles was a member of Virginia Mines Baptist Church, Lonedell, where he served as pastor from 1991 through 2005. He previously was pastor at Calvey Baptist Church, Catawissa, for about 10 years. He continued his education and obtained a master's degree in theology. Charles also was past moderator of the Franklin County Baptist Association, where he was a part of a construction ministry. He was involved in the remodeling of Virginia Mines Baptist Church as well as the building of Calvey Baptist Church. During his working career, Charles was a design engineer at Boeing Corporation, St. Louis, retiring after 34 years of service. He was proud to have served his country in the U.S. Navy, entering Oct. 23, 1956, and being discharged Aug. 31, 1958, after attaining the rank of airman 1st class.
Charles had a variety of interests throughout his life. He was a skilled carpenter and built his own home, as well as homes for family members. He loved to fish, hunt, play golf and especially enjoyed sharing in Friday game night with his family. What meant most to Charles was time spent with his family. His children and grandchildren held a very special place in his heart, as he certainly did in theirs. The love they shared and many precious memories they created will forever be cherished by all of them.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Carrie Herron; three brothers, Leroy Herron, Jerry Herron and Vetis Herron; one sister, Geneva Wright; and one great-grandchild, Lucas Herron.
Charles is survived by his wife, Carlette Herron, Roberts-villle; children, Robert Herron Sr. and wife Joanie, Roberts-ville, Thomas Herron and wife Donna, York, S.C., Suzanne Young and husband Scott, and Sara Herron, all of Robertsville, and Judi Neeley and husband Marc, Union; one brother, Willard Herron, Evansville, Ind.; one sister, Wilma Karch, Evansville, Ind.; 15 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren, with three on the way; brothers- and sisters-in-law; nieces; nephews; great- and great-great-nieces and -nephews; cousins; other relatives and many friends.
A funeral service was held at 1 p.m. Monday, July 29, at Russell Colonial Funeral Home, St. Clair, with the Rev. Glenn Hammond officiating.
Interment was at Virginia Mines Cemetery, Lonedell. Memorials may be given to Virginia Mines Baptist Church or The International Students, Inc.
