1926 - 2018 Obituary Condolences
Daniel William Fleer Jr., 92, Washington, passed away Saturday, Sept. 1, 2018.

Daniel, son of the late Daniel William Fleer Sr. and wife Viola Marie, nee Sherman, was born March 10, 1926, in Washington. He received his education in the Washington public schools. Daniel proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy, from June 20, 1944, to June 3, 1946, as a Seaman 1st Class. He served on the U.S.S. Bland in the South Pacific. After returning from the Navy, he, his brothers and father operated D.W. Fleer and Sons Plumbing and Heating.

He was united in marriage to Marion Meyer Sept. 18, 1948, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Washington. Daniel later went to work at Jefferson Products, where he was employed for over 30 years. He retired in 1991. Daniel was an active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and spent time volunteering in various capacities. He also was a longtime member of American Legion Post 218 and served as post commander from 1954 to 1955.

Daniel is survived by his wife, Marion Fleer, Washington; two sons, Rod Fleer and wife Nancy, St. Charles, and Mark Fleer and wife Linda, Washington; three daughters, Rebecca Steffens and husband Richard, Jenny Jasper, and Tammy Beers and husband Curt, all of Washington; 12 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Kenneth Fleer and wife LaVerne, Washington, and Jack Fleer and wife Martha, Winston-Salem, N.C.; one brother-in-law, Eugene Unnerstall, Washington; three sisters-in-law, Doris Fleer, Washington, Donna Fleer, Bentonville, Ark., and Mary Rode, Washington; nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Dale Jasper; his parents; two sisters, Doris Graves and Leola Unnerstall; and four brothers, Eldon, Donald, Robert and Tom Fleer.

A funeral service was held Wednesday, Sept. 5, at 10 a.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Washington, with Pastor William Zastrow officiating.

Burial followed in the church cemetery.
