Garry Messex, 56, Villa Ridge, passed away Tuesday, April 23, 2013, in Washington.|
He was born Sept. 5, 1956, in Richwoods, the son of Elmer Mayfield and Mary Messex. Garry attended school until eighth grade. At the age of 18 he enlisted in the U.S. Navy. Garry was employed as an auto mechanic most of his working years, a job he enjoyed until he was unable to work anymore. Garry also enjoyed fishing, mushroom hunting, baseball, and working on derby cars with his sons. While he did not attend church, Garry did believe in God and will be missed by his family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his dad, Elmer L. Mayfield; two brothers, Frank Messex and Kenny Mayfield; and one step-brother, Robert "Bob" Mayfield.
Garry is survived by his very best friend, Tammy Glaser; mother, Mary Zekoll and her very dear friend Stephen Green, Villa Ridge; three sons, Sammy Messex and wife Christina, Robert Messex and wife Angela, all of Richwoods, and Scott Messex and wife Michelle, Cuba, Mo.; 10 grandchildren, Tracey Day, Harley Messex, Billy Jo Messex, Alissa Holweg, Aaron, Avery, Cole, Cody, Joseph and Gabriel Messex; one great-grandson, Jason Lee Berry; one brother, Eric W. Zekoll and wife Heather, Pacific; one sister, Elizabeth Thomas and husband Richard, Catawissa; two aunts; four uncles; nieces; nephews; other relatives and many friends.
A funeral service was held Saturday, April 27, at 10 a.m. at Oltmann Funeral Home, Union, with Pastor Sherri Squires officiating.
Burial followed in Horine Cemetery, Richwoods.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Messex family.
