George Chester Smiley Jr. Obituary
George Chester Smiley, Jr., 77, St. Clair, departed this life Sunday, Nov. 12, 2017, in Washington.

George, son of George Chester Smiley Sr. and Irene Frieda Wilhelmina Smiley, nee Luckett, was born Sept. 4, 1940, in St. Louis. On May 18, 1963, he was united in marriage to Nancy Carol McCulloch and three children came to bless this union.

George was a Christian and past member of Richmond Heights Presbyterian Church, Richmond Heights. He was also a past member of Moose Lodge 1086, Maplewood. After high school George had furthered his education, obtaining Bachelor degrees in both Aeronautical Engineering and Aerospace Technology from St. Louis University at Parks College, Cahokia, Ill. He also obtained his Master degree in Engineering Mechanics from University of Missouri, Rolla. After graduation he began his employment with McDonnell Douglas, now known as Boeing, as a structural engineer. He retired after 33 years and then went back as a contractor, working another 10 years. George was an outgoing man with a love for the outdoors. He enjoyed spending time at his home at Lake of the Ozarks and pulling his children and grandchildren on water skis was a favorite pastime. He also enjoyed going deer hunting, camping and airplanes. His family was very dear to him and the many wonderful times they have had together and the great memories created will be treasured by them all forever.

George is survived by his wife, Nancy Smiley, St. Clair; by one son, George C. Smiley III and wife Robin, Union; by two daughters, Laura Schneider and husband Robert, Labadie, and Karen McIntosh and husband Jeff, Berthoud, Colo.; by one sister, Ruth Ann Ball and husband Francis, Dawsonville, Ga.; by one uncle, Elmer Luckett, Shrewsbury; by nine grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews; great-nieces and -nephews; three brothers-in-law; cousins and many friends.

George was preceded in death by his parents, George Sr. and Irene Smiley.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 16, and after 10 a.m. Friday, Nov. 17, at Russell Colonial Funeral Home, St. Clair.

A funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 17, at the funeral home, with the Rev. Jim Watson officiating.

Interment will be in Midlawn Memorial Gardens, Union. Memorials may be made to the .
