1932 - 2018 Obituary Condolences
George Oren Albietz, 86, Grand Island, Fla., formerly of St. Clair, departed this life Tuesday, Aug. 28, 2018, in Washington.

George was born Feb. 2, 1932, in St. Louis, the son of Peter Aloysius Albietz and wife Pauline Nancy Esther, nee Warfel. On June 15, 1951, he was united in marriage to Shirley Lee Heimrich, and five children came to bless this union.

George was a Christian and past member of St. Clair United Methodist Church in St. Clair. He began his military career at a young age in the Merchant Marines. He was proud to have served his country in the U.S. Army, serving from April 4,1951, to April 3,1963. He entered the Army National Guard June 29, 1982, and retired Aug. 3, 1992, with a total of 18 years of active duty and four years of reserves. He was a member and past master of Easter Lodge 575 A.F.&A.M. of St. Clair, having been initiated April 25, 1995, passed June 20, 1995, and raised June 24, 1995. He also was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, Chapter 96 of St. Clair. He furthered his education by attaining his associate degree in business. George was an outgoing man who worked in furniture sales in Illinois for many years. After moving to Missouri, he was employed as a letter carrier in St. Charles, retiring after 10 years. He was an avid reader, enjoyed playing cards and enjoyed working in his garden. He especially enjoyed the companionship of his dogs. What meant most to him was time spent with his family. The love they shared and many precious memories they created will forever live in their hearts.

George is survived by his son, Thomas Albietz and wife Margie, Springfield, Ill.; his daughters, Linda Dumbris and husband Alan, Berea, Ky., Greta Franklin and husband Gary, St. Louis, Christine Brown, Pittsburgh, Pa., and Cathy Molkenbur and husband Carl, St. Clair; 14 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren, nieces; nephews; great- and great-great-nieces and -nephews; cousins; and many friends.

George was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Albietz; his parents, Peter and Pauline Albietz; and his sister, Mary VanNostran.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 4, at Russell Colonial Funeral Home, St. Clair, with the Rev. Don Covington officiating.

Interment, with full military honors, was in Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, St. Louis.

Memorials may be made to the Franklin County Humane Society.
