Geraldine "Gerry" Louise Bird, nee Paeper, 80, St. Clair, passed away Saturday, Feb. 9, 2013, in St. Clair, surrounded by the love of her family. |
Geraldine, the daughter of the late Edward H. Paeper and wife Mildred, nee Smith, was born March 1, 1932 in St. Louis. She was united in marriage to Hugh Glenn Bird on May 20, 1950. Three children came to bless this union.
Gerry was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Mildred Paeper; husband, Hugh Bird; one son-in-law, Bill Guse; and one brother, William Paeper.
Gerry is survived by two daughters, Sandee Guse, Dittmer, and Linda Smith and husband Doyle, St. Clair; one son, Lee Bird and wife Marjorie, St. Clair; one sister, Marlene "Margie" Arnett, Fenton; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren, one sister-in-law, one brother-in-law, nieces, nephews, great- and great-great-nieces and nephews; cousins; other relatives and many friends.
Gerry was a Christian, believing in the Lord as her Savior, and enjoyed visiting Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in St. Clair. She had a variety of interests throughout her life. Gerry was an avid reader, loved to travel and also liked watching old movies. She made caring for her home and family her career in life, and she never tired of her job. To Gerry, family was everything, and her children and grandchildren held a very special place in her heart, as did she in theirs. The love they shared and memories they created together will forever be cherished by all of them.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 16, at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, St. Clair, with the Rev. Roger Altenberger officiating.
A private entombment will take place on Tuesday, Feb. 19, at Valhalla Cemetery, St. Louis.
Memorials may be made to Holy Trinity Lutheran Church Youth Group. The Bird family is being served by Russell Colonial Funeral Home, St. Clair.
