Jack Michael Cancila, 92, Washington, passed away Tuesday, April 2, 2013.|
He was born Jan. 27, 1921, in St. Louis, the son of Mariano Cancila and wife Anna, nee Centunzi.
Mr. Cancila received his education in St. Louis and was a graduate of Beaumont High School. He also attended Washington University. Mr. Cancila served his country during World War II from November 1939 until October 1945.
On April 12, 1947, he was united in marriage to Ginette Bontemps at Holy Rosary Church, St. Louis. They made their home in St. Louis. Mr. Cancila was a decorator for more than 30 years for Bly-Moss Furniture, Kents Furniture and Carafoils Furniture, all in St. Louis. The couple moved to Washington in 2001.
Mr. Cancila was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Washington, and the St. Charles American Legion.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Vince and Joseph Cancila; and two sisters, Grace Miskovb and Louise Nuccio.
Mr. Cancila is survived by his wife, Ginette Cancila, Washington; two sons, Chris Cancila and wife Janet, Houston, Texas, and Jack Cancila Jr. and wife Mary Jo, Kirkwood; two daughters, Madeleine Buecker and husband Gerald, Washington, and Tracey Bennett and husband Daniel, Keller, Texas; one brother, Sam Cancila and wife Nanette, Kirkwood; 11 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; other relatives and many friends.
A funeral Mass was celebrated Friday, April 5, at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Washington, with Father Brian Hecktor officiating. Full military honors were rendered.
Burial was private.
