James "Jim" D. Mantle, 85, Beaufort, formerly of Linn, passed away Saturday, Jan. 5, 2013, at his home.|
Jim was born Jan. 24, 1927, in Linn, a son to the late Rhey Mantle and wife Mary, nee Gilbert.
He was a graduate of Linn High School. Jim was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in the Pacific Theater during the final months of World War II. He later was stationed in Korea.
On Sept. 25, 1948, Jim was united in marriage to Margaret Ann Voss in Linn. She survives of the home.
Jim worked several years in car sales and was of the Christian faith. He was a member of Linn Masonic Lodge 326 A. F. & A. M.
Jim enjoyed the outdoors, including hunting, fishing and spending time with his family. A big part of his family included his Border collie, Bo, and his cat, Kitty.
In addition to his wife, Jim is survived by two daughters, Judy Mantle, San Diego, Calif., and Elaine Johns and her husband Larry, Beaufort; one brother, Don Mantle and wife Clara, Peoria, Ariz.; four grandchildren, Johnnie and Jimmy McCabe and Eugene "Gene" and Tim Mantle; eight great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, James Rhey "Willy" Mantle; three brothers, Buell "B.A.", Larry and Clifford Mantle; and two sisters, Betty Mantle and Ragine "Jean" Hubach.
Visitation was scheduled to be held from 9:30 until 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 9, at Morton Chapel, Linn.
Masonic services were to begin at 11 a.m. Wednesday followed by the funeral service with the Rev. Diane Hazard officiating. Full military honors will follow the services.
