James L. Calvert Obituary
James L. Calvert, 82, Washington, passed away Tuesday, June 26, 2018, at New Haven Care Center, New Haven.

James, son of the late James William Calvert and wife Faye, nee Harmon, was born Sept. 6, 1935, in Gordon, Texas. He was the widower of Martha Ruth Calvert, nee Abbott. They were united in marriage Feb. 6, 1956, in Clayton, N.M. Martha passed away Oct. 22, 2009.

James was a member of Faith Baptist Church, Washington, Elks Club in Washington, and he was a Mason. James worked as a mechanic for Purcell Tire in Washington for 40 years. In his free time, he enjoyed fishing, hunting and doing wood carvings, but mostly he loved spending time with his grandchildren.

James is survived by one son, Gary Calvert and wife Janet, Foley; four grandchildren, Zachary, Lucas, Sarah and Nora; four sisters, Barbara J. Calvert and Wilma J. Massey, both of Coleman, Texas, Melva A. Ash, Sinton, Texas, and Wanda R. Alaniz, Taft, Texas; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; one brother, Kenneth R. Calvert; and two sisters, Patricia Ann Calvert and Joy Faye Beyer.

Visitation will be held Sunday, July 1, from 3 to 7 p.m. at Faith Baptist Church, Washington, where funeral services will be held Monday, July 2, at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Brett Blair and the Rev. Fred Broome officiating.

Burial will be at Nortman Cemetery, New Haven.

Memorials may be given to Faith Baptist Church or Nortman Cemetery, in care of Toedtmann-Grosse Funeral Home.
